Eyebrows Transplant

Eyebrows Transplant

What Is An Eyebrow Transplant?

An eyebrow transplant is a cosmetic procedure where hair grafts (plugs) are transferred to your brow area. This goal is that new hairs will grow from these grafts, producing a fuller look (1).

The small follicular units enable the surgeon to transplant thousands of grafts within a single session, hence maximizing the impact of the technique. Before the follicular hair transplantation method was developed, surgeons removed large grafts in groups of 3-8 hairs. This method yielded an unnatural look as the follicular units would get damaged of broken up, affecting hair growth.

Follicular Unit Extraction is a surgical hair transplant technique that involves removing individual hair follicles from scalp and implanting them on the thinning or bald areas of the head. The whole procedure, i.e., from extraction to implantation, is performed manually by our skilled surgeon Dr. Farooque. FUE hair transplant in Dubai is ideal for:

  •         Patients whose hairline is growing backward
  •         People with bald hair
  •         Those with particle hair loss

How Does Eyebrow Transplant Work?

The actual procedure is similar to traditional hair transplant. Eyebrow hair grafts are taken from hairs above your ears. A surgeon transfers not just the individual hairs, but the hair follicles, too. This helps to ensure that new hairs are able to grow in your eyebrows once the initial transferred ones fall out. After the patient is given a general anesthetic, a surgeon will make small incisions at the follicle donor sites, as well as at the sites of transplantation in a patient’s brows. The entire process takes about 2 to 3 hours. (4)

FAQs

What is an eyebrow transplant?

An eyebrow transplant is a cosmetic procedure where hair grafts (plugs) are transferred to your brow area. This goal is that new hairs will grow from these grafts, producing a fuller look (1).

Who needs an eyebrow transplant?

Those people specifically need eyebrow transplant that has thin eyebrows. People are born with thin eyebrows that are rarely visible on the face. Some people are born with lightly pigmented brows which are rarely visible on the face. There are some others who might have lost their eyebrows in some disease or accident and want to regain their confidence by getting them back. Thick eyebrows are usually desired by all women since they make you look attractive and stand out from the crowd (2).

In general, most patients are appropriate candidates for the eyebrow transplant. Because the best-quality donor hair is typically found on the back of the scalp, straight to slightly wavy hair is ideal for best results since very curly hair could translate to curl within the brows. A reasonably good medical condition is important to minimize the risk of complications. In addition, patients who have lost their eyebrow hairs as a result of genetics, over-plucking, or trauma are generally the best candidates. Patients with alopecia and other medical causes for hair loss are not typically good candidates and would need to be evaluated on an individual basis. (2)

Is the eyebrow transplant invasive or noninvasive? Is the eyebrow transplant painful?

The eyebrow transplant procedure is non-invasive. It doesn’t cause any pain. It requires generally only local anesthesia. (3)

Is the patient given local or general anesthesia?

The patient is given local anesthesia. Local anesthesia is the one that is applied on the targeted part for transplantation. (3)

The procedure requires local anesthesia and consists of three stages.

  • First stage of eyebrow transplant is to collect the follicles. Initially I injected local anaesthetic medicine in order to get full numbness. I harvest each individual follicle from the donor area with FUE technique. The number of the follicles depends on the recipient area’s requirement which varies among 50 to 400 follicles. Collecting the follicles takes 30-60 minutes.
  • Second stage of eyebrow transplant is to make tiny incisions on the recipient area in order to place the follicles. Incision pattern is very critical in terms of direction. Alignment, direction, angulation and density of the incisions which require special hand skill that you cannot find everywhere influence the quality of the result. Making the incisions takes 30-60 minutes.
  • Third stage of eyebrow transplant is the placement of the follicles into the incisions. During the placement, rotating the follicle as the hair curve positioned parallel to the other hairs is critical in this stage. This is a really time-consuming job and takes 1 to 2 hours. (5)

What technology is used in the eyebrow transplant?

Eyebrows transplant uses the technique called Follicular Unit Extraction, which is a fancy way of saying the doctors take a growing hair follicle, in its entirety, from a different part of the body (like the nape of the neck) and use it for an eyebrow transplant. The patient gets to decide the finished eyebrow look, which they think will be most pleasing. Then the doctors transplant the hair follicles to the correct place to achieve this look. (6)

How long does the eyebrow transplant take?

The process of eyebrow Transplantation is not too long. The entire process takes about 2-3 hours (7)

On which body parts can we perform an eyebrow transplant?

It involves restoring eyebrows using the person’s own hair, collected from other parts of the body. The hair to be used for eyebrows is specially taken from the back of the head with the help of follicular unit extraction (FUE) or follicular unit transfer (FUT) technique. (8)

What does the affected area look like right after the eyebrow transplant?

This treatment can:

  • Reshape and re-sculpt the eyebrow shape
  • Restore eyebrow hair from excess plucking
  • Replace hairs lost to genetic disorders, like some forms of alopecia (9)

Is eyebrow transplant safe?

Eyebrow Transplant is normally safe and non-invasive. But one of the potential risks of an eyebrow transplant is that the new hair follicles won’t take. In such cases, the patient may have to have the procedure done again in the future.

There are also risks associated with the surgery itself. Potential complications include:

  • excessive bleeding
  • nerve damage
  • swelling
  • bruising
  • infection
  • scarring (10)

What is the difference between Microblading and Eyebrows transplantation?

Microblading is less time consuming and costs less than an eyebrow transplant but the color fades up to 40% and doesn’t last for as long as a traditional tattoo. Microblading will need to be refreshed every 1 to 3 years. This is a cheaper, but a shorter-term option. (11)  While an eyebrow transplant is a cosmetic procedure where hair grafts (plugs) are transferred to your brow area. This goal is that new hairs will grow from these grafts, producing a fuller look. (10)

Is eyebrow transplant permanent?

Yes, an eyebrow Transplantation is the best way to have three-dimensional permanent eyebrows.

How much does eyebrow transplant cost in Dubai?

Eyebrow restoration and eyelash transplant costs in Dubai vary from clinic to clinic and depend on how many hairs you need for transplantation. Eyebrow & eyelash transplant price is usually 12.000 AED ($3.300) (5).

Is eyebrow transplant more expensive than the [alternate procedure]?

Eyebrow transplants cost less over time in comparison to treatments such as microblading. This is because microblading is only a semi-permanent solution as the results last anywhere between 12 months and 3 years. Eyebrow transplants are cost-effective because they are a long-term solution to rejuvenating eyebrow growth and stimulating fuller hair that slims and shapes the face. (12)

Is eyebrow transplant worth it?

An eyebrow transplant may offer long-term results if you’re not happy with the look of your eyebrows and want a more permanent solution. However, results can vary, and there’s always a risk of side effects with cosmetic surgery. This is true even with a procedure as seemingly simple as an eyebrow transplant. (12)

Recovery & Post-Procedure Care

How do you care for a patient after an eyebrow transplant?

It is important that you avoid exercise, activities, and sports for 7 days for FUT and 5 days for FUE. Too much activity could cause swelling, bleeding, and loss of grafts. After 7 days for FUT and 5 days for FUE, you may resume MILD activities (approximately 50% of normal exercise routine), continuing to avoid heavy activity such as running, heavy weight lifting, golfing and cycling for an additional 5 days.

Eyebrow Care
  1.       The tiny crusts where each graft was placed will fall off at around 3 to 7 days. Gently rub off any remaining crusts at 7 days – if there is any discomfort or bleeding, stop and begin to rub again 2 days later. There will also likely be a mild amount of pinkness to the area for a few days to a week after the crusts fall off.
  2.      Some of the transplanted hairs will fall off over the next 2-3 weeks. This is normal and the hairs will start to grow typically in three to four months. (1)

When can we go home after the eyebrow transplant?

Once the procedure is complete, they won’t need to stay in the clinic and can go home to recover. (13)

What can you eat after an eyebrow transplant?

After the eyebrow transplant, doctors believe that a patient should consume B-complex vitamin supplements to get to the levels that are needed. Some foods that are rich in B-complex vitamins are; chicken, meat, bananas, avocados, brown rice, nuts, and eggs. (14)

Do we have to take antibiotics after eyebrow transplant?

Yes, we do take antibiotics against infections. The purpose of these antibiotics is to prevent a skin infection that you may incur. Quantity is 10 tablets (Take one tablet twice daily for 5 days, beginning the day before surgery). Do not take this medication on an empty stomach. If you develop any allergy to the medication, please stop the medication and call your doctor. (15)

When can we take a shower after an eyebrow transplant?

The application takes approximately one hour, and a shower can be taken after one day. (16)

After how many days can we wash our face normally after eyebrow transplant?

For the first 8 days you can wash your face very gently with soap and water if desired (AVOIDING THE EYEBROWS). After the 8th day, normal face washing, showering, and mild exercise are permitted. You may wash the eyebrows gently in a circular/dabbing motion with soap and water. Normal hair shampooing is permitted the day after your procedure.

There will be tiny crusts where each graft was placed which will fall off at 5-7 days after washing begins.  Gently rub off any remaining crusts at 8 days – if there is any discomfort or bleeding, stop and begin to rub again 2 days later.  There will also likely be a mild amount of pinkness to the area for days to weeks after the crusts fall off.

Most of the transplanted hairs will fall off over the following 2 weeks.  This is normal, as the hairs will start to grow back 2 to 3 months later. Once the hairs start to grow back, you will need to trim them once or twice monthly, and occasionally apply some hair gel to “train” some of the hairs to grow flat to the forehead in the ideal direction. For most patients, at 4 or 5 days they are presentable without any obvious signs of having had a procedure other than they will have new hairs, and possibly some mild flaking. Avoid excessive sun exposure for the first week after your procedure.  (17)

What soap/shampoo do we have to use after eyebrow transplant?

You need to use a mild soap/shampoo like baby shampoo after eyebrow transplant to avoid infection. When washing your hair you need to be careful not to pull out any transplanted hair or cause yourself any pain or bleeding. It is important to wash your hair after a hair transplant however to reduce the risk of infection and remove any scabs, blood or crusts from the scalp.

When washing just the donor area of your head:

  • Fill a cup with warm water and add a few drops of baby shampoo.
  • Pour the soapy water onto your hair.
  • Gently rub the soapy water into the transplanted area taking care to ensure you don’t dislodge the transplanted hairs. Don’t pick at any scabs if there is any when washing.
  • Fill a cup with warm water and rinse the area. Rinse the area until there is no soap left.
  • Allow the hair to dry thoroughly naturally. (18)

Can we wash the affected area at home after the eyebrow transplant?

Yes, you can wash the affected area home after eyebrow transplant but don’t wash your hair in the first 48 hours. (19)

How often do we have to see the doctor after an eyebrow transplant?

A standard eyebrow transplant procedure typically requires 50 to 100 hair grafts, but it could be more depending on the patient’s condition. So you will have to see the doctor as given instructions by him. (20)

How long does it take for the eyebrows to heal after eyebrow transplant?

Every patient is different, but in general, the scabs and the eyebrow redness or pinkness go away anywhere between a few days to around 2 weeks. When the scabs fall off, the short hairs that were implanted will generally fall out too. This is to be expected. (21)
